One thing the new Monday Journal re-establishes is a strong commitment from editor Vlad Pogorelov over a long period of time (23 years) to excellence and creativity on graphic design levels, as is seen in the respective Ed Bowers and Brian Willette cover images for Monday 2 (2021) and Siren's Silence Vol. 2 No.3 (1998).

Kate Crowley

I'd like to introduce Kate Crowley, and out that she is the partial muse for my piece which was just released in Otoliths 61. Kate began as my student at Temple, and I happened to teach her and Julia Brodsky together in the spring of 2008 at Temple. Kate is also the muse for this piece.

from Spider Vein Impasto: Gun and Knife

Spider Vein Impasto was one of Juliet Cook's singular, hand-crafted print journals in the late Aughts. I weighed in, in this particular collection, with Gun and Knife, which later showed up in the 2010 Mipo chapbook Returns. The dedication to John Tranter suggested itself to me because Tranter's sense of humor, expressed in his work, is an intriguingly dark one, and this one turned out to be dark, too.
